Update written by Colin Davis
Milton Gate
The refurbishment of the existing building with a two-storey extension, has planning
permission. Work is expected to start in 2027.
e-bike parking on pavements
The city has undertaken to remove e-bikes where they obstruct the pavement and for
two weeks confiscated about 100 bikes. However, the situation is still far from
satisfactory. Bikes are left un-attended, unsightly and dangerously sprawled across the
pavement. They also use valuable public space as a private warehouse. We are
pressing the City to act more firmly.
Tenter House
The delayed project is now going ahead with a different structural system and under
new architects. The scheme will include new public landscaping adjacent to City Point
Plaza, on the direct walking route from the Heron to Moorgate station.
Moor Lane Greening
The scheme is funded partly by a planning levy on the Heron development in about
2012. The project has now been taken over as one of the City’s “improved public
spaces” within the public highway. As such its management and maintenance as a
garden will be by the Corporation of London.
A multi-disciplinary design team has been appointed and has been conducting
preliminary studies on basic requirements. Wider consultation with neighbouring
residents is expected later in the year.
Barbican Renewal
The scheme which deals with much needed structural maintenance and internal
rearrangements is about to start.
1 Silk Street
After an overwhelmingly negative response to its first planning application, the
developer, Lipton Rogers Developments, has submitted revised proposals. These
include some changes to the western edge of the scheme but leave the eastern side
adjacent to the Heron unchanged.
Many Heron residents have again sent comments to the City Corporation, emphasising
their original views. The revised planning application is expected to be discussed and decided upon at the City planning committee at Guildhall on Thursday 28 May at 10.00am.
